Progressing AHEAD of Schedule

What's Up?

Well, Christian is!!!

As all of you (or most ) know Christian came to Valley Meds' Rehabilitation Center 4 weeks ago yesterday to partake in an aggressive re-hab program. And aggressive it has been. In the short amount of time that he has been here he has exceeded all expectations and measures set for him.

When he came to Valley he could just move his left leg to the side but not up and down. Along with some movement from his left arm. Movement from his right side was very slight. In addition he came with a tracheotomy as well as a g-tube from his stomach for feeding.

With the beginning of his fifth week in re-hab we find Christian participating in group therapy (bowling) and feeding himself breakfast. These are no easy tasks. He has worked hard each and every day of the six days a week program. On Sundays a family friend has been coming in and doing an additional hour of therapy with him. Where once he couldn't lift his arm he is now lifting small hand weights with both arms. His legs are getting him from place to place with the aide of a walker and physical therapist in therapy sessions. He propels himself in the wheelchair to get to those sessions daily. And again he is feeding himself some breakfast and lunch. Eventually this will replace the g-tube feedings. Oh Yeah did I mention............ he's talking!! The trach is still in and will remain while he continues to improve his swallowing. But that's coming along as well and can be removed possibly as early as next week if all continues as it has been.

We are all so very proud of him and words can not truly express how grateful we are that we get to share this experience with him.

Thank you again and again and again for your continued support, well wishes and prayers.

Christians' Family

ps Christian has read all the blogs and will be dictating some words and thoughts soon.

I know you don't know who I am, but I am in your Sunday yoga class and Karyn has been keeping us up to date with Christian's progress. I just want you to know that my thoughts and prayers are with your family. I think that your positive attitude is a great source of healing in itself.

At Friday nights game against Scotts Valley I saw someone sitting on the bench. The back of his hair was shaved and I thought I saw a #7 on his jersey--"Oh My Gosh", I said to my family, "that is Christian!!!" I had just heard rumors that he might be coming home--and here he was! As the game progressed, players and coaches would come up to him and say hello or give him a hug.

Then, at half time, after the team left the field, I still get chills thinking about this, Christian and his dad got up from the bench, turned toward the stands and everyone stood up and clapped for him. And clapped. And clapped!

I think everyone was feeling the same things--overwhelming joy at his presence, overflowing gratitude to God and the medical staff that took care of Christian and that it was just unbelievable that he was standing and walking right in front of all of us! He might as well have been walking on water...

I know there will be challenges still ahead, but with a family like Christian's and friends like we have met through this blog-- Christian will be just fine!

God is Good and Christian is Blessed!

God Bless You, Christian--you are one miraculous young man!

Christian,
Because of you
my world is now whole,
Because of you
love lives in my soul.
Because of you
I have laughter in my eyes,
Because of you
I am no longer afraid of good-byes.
You are my pillar
my stone of strength,
With me through all seasons
and great times of length.
My love for you is pure
boundless through space and time,
it grows stronger everyday
with the knowledge that you'll always be mine.
At the altar
I will joyously say 'I do',
for I have it all now
and it's all because of you.

Baby

I used to dream of eyes so broWn
And loving arms to hold me.
I used to dream of heroic knights
And how gracious they would be.

I used to dream of how I wouldn’t settle
For anything less than best.
I used to dream of how he would majestically
Lay all fears to rest.

I used to dream of fairy tales,
How wondrous would they be
I used to dream of story books
All patterned after me.

I used to dream of a lot of things,
But the moment I met you,
I immediately stopped dreaming,
Because all of my dreams came true.
i miss you

I think that I might fly away, in my hot air balloon,
And hide from worldly worries on the dark side of the moon;
There’s but one thing I need before I float into the blue:
I need a sky companion and I want it to be you.

We’ll fly beyond the storm clouds and we’ll watch from up above,
I’ll cover you in rainbows as we feel each others’ love;
You’ll shower in the stars at midnight in our special place,
I’ll dry you with a comet’s tail and kiss your beaming face.

Dreamy drifting panorama, changing every day,
Every night your loving smile will be my milky way,
The moon will wane before us, sailing there in heaven’s height,
For nothing else can challenge our love’s everlasting light.

Venus shining on us, glowing soft at our devotion,
Our daily drifting dalliance in love’s celestial ocean,
I’ll write you lovers’ poetry, and you will be my muse,
Orion and Andromeda will oversee our cruise.

We’ll sleep with clouds as pillows, maybe steal an angel’s wings,
Then fly as magic lovebirds, or slide round Saturn’s rings,
And should we tire of drifting and the stars all floating by,
We’ll hook onto a meteor and soar across the sky.

Will you consent to be my mate on our celestial ship?
I’m ready, heart all packed with love, to last us for the trip,
Take my hand and step aboard, we’re heading for the sun,
We’re flying till we find the place where our two souls are one.
i love and miss yo sweat ass
